How to check Member Ids or PF accounts linked to UAN

There are 2 ways to check how many of your Member Ids or PF accounts linked to UAN.  Member Id or Member Identification Numbers or Employee Provident Fund(EPF) account number is the number given by EPFO to allow the employer to submit EPF and EPS contribution for the employee. When you change a job the EPF contribution in it is made to a new PF account number or Member Id. From 2014 these different Member Ids should be tied to UAN. This article explains the difference between UAN and Member Id. It explains in detail with images how many Member Ids are linked to UAN. The 2 ways to check how many of

What is the difference between Member Id and UAN?

Employer submits the EPF(Employee Provident Fund) money to the EPFO (Employee Provident Fund Office) on behalf of the employee. This includes both the employee contribution, employer contribution, Employee Pension Scheme. Member Id or Member Identification Numbers or PF account number is the number given by EPFO to allow the employer to submit EPF and EPS contribution for the employee. It’s like Employer opens an EPF account for its employee and contributes to that account every month.

When the employee changes the job then the new employer will open a new account number for its employee in EPFO. So a new Member ID will be allotted to the employee. Member ID is same as PF number earlier. So you would have as many Member ID as the number of employers who contributed to EPFO on your behalf.

Member ID or PF Account Number is in the format given below. PF Account Number may not have Extension code. Ex: For someone who works in Bangalore the code can be BG/BNG/012345//789.

EPFO Office Code/Establishment Code(Max. 7 Digits)/Extension(Max. 3 digits)/Account Number (Max 7 digit)

       Ex: BG/BNG/012345//0001789

UAN is Universal Account Number. The UAN is a 12-digit  number allotted to an employee who is contributing to EPF.  An employee should have only one UAN or Universal Account number. All your Provident Funds or your Member Ids would be tied to your UAN. It will maintain all your Member Ids.  It’s like you can have multiple Saving Bank account but all these are tied to your one Permanent Account Number or PAN. So when you change your job and the new employer, if contributing to EPF, gives you a new Member ID. This new Member ID has to be linked to your UAN number.

  1. Hello Sir,

I have been in service for more than 5 years and recently applied for complete EPF withdrawal. While my form 19 got submitted for claim settlement, my request for form 10 (c) claim got rejected and the reason given was to submit previous passbook for my FPF amount. There is no provision to upload the same. How do I share my Old passbook to settle the claim.

    • Did you work in Multiple companies?
      Name in these companies differ?
Please check your passbook which would have details.
Also Please file a complaint at the EPFO grievance cell to get more details.

  13. Sir,
    I’m joining a new company.
My intention is to not show my previous employers details to new employer.
I have found some people online stating that, with UAN number the new employer can see my employment history which is undesirable for me.

    another doubt:
    1) Will my Member ID be visible on UAN , if i have taken my PF money from that member ID ?
    2) Am i obligated to reveal my UAN number and my PF number to new employer.
    3) If my previous employer has not linked PF number to UAN, will it visible under UAN?
Note :My AAdhar number is not linked with UAN number.

Please forgive me so many doubts, i’m willing to pay for your service if such a service is available.

    Thank you in advance.

    • Yes, your employer can see your old employer details, if he searches.
We would recommend you to come clean with your employer.
In this world of social media/internet, it is difficult to hide.
Member Id will still be shown in Your Service History if you give UAN
Technically yes you are obligated to reveal your UAN to new emplouer
No, if your earlier employer has not linked PF(Member Id) to UAN then it will NOT be visible

Please don’t look for such services…because a lot of frauds happen!

    • Have you transferred your old PF?
If not then you can try going the offline route.
EPF money is for retirement, leave it there and let compounding do its job.
If you haven’t transferred we will also recommend you to transfer the account so that things are consolidated and you can do only one withdrawal

My UAN is linked with 2 Member IDs and I left the job from both of those employers. Without knowing about the need of merging the member IDs while applying for withdrawal, I applied and got the money for one member id and the other one was not paid. When I contacted EPFO through mobile app they did not give me a proper response and then when I tried to merge the accounts(one withdrawn and the other is not withdrawn) online it says the details are different and the claim cannot be processed. What is the process to withdraw the pf from another account? I see that the DOE is not filled for that account. Should I contact the respective employer to make the changes? How to apply for withdrawal after they update the DOE ? Kindly help me with this. TIA!!!!

If you have transferred then you cannot withdraw from old company.
You can take a premature withdrawal from your PF account.
One is not required to give any supporting document while preferring online PF Part Withdrawal case. Member’s applying online will be taken as his self-declaration for preferring the advance claim.

Member’s applying online are required to authenticate their claim submission using OTP sent to their UIDAI registered Mobile number giving consent to UIDAI to share their e-KYC (Aadhaar) credentials to EPFO.
