“How much do these contestants get on BIGG BOSS to be so nasty?”, remarked my friend which made me think about how much do the contestants get for being on Bigg Boss, How much does the host makes, what is the prize money, how much do the advertisers pay, how much does the production cost?  BIGG BOSS is one of the most scintillating eye-grabber & most talked about show on Indian Television. The controversies, love affairs, arguments make viewers and advertisers flock for every season of Bigg Boss. Public discusses the contestants, controversy about the choice of housemates, the language they use, the way they portray themselves and what they wear.  About BIGG BOSS

Bigg Boss is an Indian reality show on the pattern the show Big Brother, a franchise created by John de Mol and his Dutch-based TV production firm Endemol in 1997.  A bunch of people, known as housemates, live together, doing household chores, in a specially constructed house which has no TV connection, no phones, no Internet connection, clocks, pen or paper. The only entertainment left to them is fighting, indulge in backbiting or play out lovey-dovey scenes. Housemates are overseen by a mysterious person known as Bigg Boss, whose only presence in the house is through his voice. Each week, housemates nominate two of their peers for eviction, and the housemates who receive the most nominations face a public vote. Of these, one eventually leaves, having been evicted from the House. There were exceptions to this process as dictated by Bigg Boss. In the final week, when three housemates remain the public votes for the winner. What you get in Bigg Boss is drama, romance, fight, lights, camera, and action, without a director shouting his orders at you. It is up to the contestants, who decide what they do and how they behave. Nearly 70 cameras bring forth the weird emotional outbursts of the participants.

Bigg Boss started in in India  in 2006 on Sony TV and then switched to Colors in 2008. In India, the format has been adapted for local channels such as in Kannada (ETV Kannada, ended June, 2013) and Bangla (ETV Bangla, ended September, 2013) .

Tejasswi Prakash gets paid a salary of whopping 10 lakhs per week of Bigg Boss 15 and is currently the highest-paid.

Karan Kundrra, on the other hand, takes 8 lakhs per week.

Bigg Boss 13

Bigg Boss 13  premiered on 29 Sep 2019 at 9 pm on Colors TV with Salman Khan as host. This year, there are no commoners in the house. Beside the 13 celebrities, Ameesha Patel will also be seen in the show. She will be a link between Salman Khan and the contestants. There will also be many wild card entries in the upcoming weeks. The sets have been moved from Lonavala. Sets to the House follow the theme of a “Bigg Boss Museum” and is located in Goregaon Mumbai.  The show was to have 4-month run with the finale on January 2020. But seeing the popularity of the show was given a five-week extension; thus ending in February and becoming the longest season. It is the only season to get 12 wildcard contestants.

Bigg Boss 12

Bigg Boss 12 is the twelfth season of the Indian reality TV series Bigg Boss which is based on the Dutch series Big Brother, and premiered on 16 September 2018 on Colors. The launch episode was titled ‘Bigg Night’.

Salman Khan hosts the season for the ninth time.

As per the theme of vichitra jodis,(strange pairs) six pairs will be entering the show. However, the celebrities will be participating solo. The contestants will be locked in the beach themed house for more than 100 days, with 89 cameras recording them 24X7.

 Salman Khan Fees for hosting Bigg Boss

Salman Khan has been hosting Bigg Boss since the fourth season.He also became the highest paid TV actor with reports suggesting that he is getting Rs 11 crore per episode for hosting the 11th season of the reality show Bigg Boss.

Salman Khan is paid between Rs 6-8 crores per episode of Big Boss 10! This is a 30 percent hike as compared to the money he got in the last season. It is said that Salman Khan is being paid Rs 5 crore for each episode of Bigg Boss Season 7. Though Salman Khan says he is charging more than the reported five crore sum per episode for hosting celebrity reality show Bigg Boss season 7. Even if you take  Rs. 5 crores per episode and there are 26 episodes his earnings totals to the amount of Rs. 130 crores.

For Bigg Boss 12 Salman Khan is charging Rs 14 crore per episode.

Contestants Fees For participating in Big Boss

The winner of Bigg Boss gets the prize money.  The channel says, “We do not reveal payment details of the celebrities“.

Contestants are paid some fixed fee weekly. The fees depend on their popularity.  As a reality show, how Bigg Boss works is, the longer you survive in the house, the more you get paid every week. The celebrities in the house are given a signing amount for the show. Contestants are also divided into three categories: top level, mid-level and bottom level.

In addition there are many others who also make a deal over a lump sum amount before going into the house. They get a certain raise on completing a month or reaching final. Industry sources claim that after Bigg Boss-5 scare, when Akashdeep Saigal aka Sky Walker, threatened to walk out, the channel and production house have become more cautious. They have additional clauses in their contract which state that if a contestant wants to leave the show, she or he will have to pay the channel in amounts running into crores. This was sort of confirmed by Big Boss 7 contestant Kaushal Tandon in his interview Kushal Tandon :Gauhar & I Are Not In A Relationship

“Jo Gauhar ne kiya, who koi nahin kar sakta. She walked out with me from Bigg Boss not to give me company but because she saw that I had taken an ideological stand and she too felt I was right. She walked out knowing she might have to pay a penalty of Rs 50 lakhs for breaking Bigg Boss rules. But she didn’t care. At that moment she only saw what was right. I admire her for this.”

Weekly fee given to the contestants of Bigg Boss

• Bottom level: This is for the least-known celebrities. Among the 14 that go inside the house, the ones with the least popularity get the minimum weekly fee. And for Bigg Boss, the minimum amount starts from a whopping Rs 3 lakh. For example, people like Arvind Vegda in Big Boss 9 who most people did not have an idea about fall into this category.
• Mid-level :This is for the contestants who are not the most popular ones but slightly more popular than most others who fall in the bottom level of contestants mentioned. the weekly fee for these people usually ranges around the Rs 4 lakh mark. Who falls into this category? Someone like Rochelle Rao, Yuvika Chaudhary or a Vikas Bhalla in Big Boss 9!
• Top level: This is reserved for the most popular contestants on the show. And their fee is always the highest. This group is paid a bomb every week, with amount shooting up to Rs 5 lakh! Rimi Sen, Aman Verma, Prince Narula in Big Boss 9 are possibly the ones who receive this much.
• Special fee: While the contestants already decide on a particular weekly fee to enter the house, there are many who negotiate and once they promise a lot of drama and content on the show, the makers even consider their decision.

Bigg Boss 11 Contestants Weekly pay

Hina Khan (Rs 7-8 lakh per week): Leading the pack is TV bahu Hina Khan, who is reportedly paid between 7-8 lakh per week to be on the show. Initially everybody’s favourite, she has now raised the ire of many a contestant by flipping sides and for due to her know-it-all attitude.

Hiten Tejwani (Rs 7-7.5 lakh per week): Now we know when he’s constantly questioned by Salman Khan for not taking a stand for contestants. After all, he is reportedly paid Rs 7-7.5 lakh per week. He must be under a lot of pressure to justify his pay cheque.  Arshi Khan, however, leaves no opportunity to flirt with this shy and introvert actor.

Shilpa Shinde (Rs 6-7 lakh per week): If there’s one contestant who has been justifying her pay cheque to the hilt, it has to be former Bhabi Ji Ghar Par Hai actress Shilpa Shinde. She is reportedly being paid Rs 6-7 lakh per week. The actress has been locking horns with Vikas Gupta since the very beginning and has been entertaining the viewers with her antics–like she escaped the jail just to put a chappal near Vikas’ head.

Vikas Gupta (Rs 6-6.5 lakh per week): Former & TV head and brain behind TV shows like Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi is supposedly getting a handsome amount of money for his reality TV stint. Vikas has been in the news for one fight or the other. He has fought with Shilpa, Hina, Akash… the list goes on. If this wasn’t enough, he even attempted to escape from the house. Vikas no doubt is giving a lot of masala to Colors TV.

Priyank Sharma (Rs 4-5 lakh per week): He is now evicted, but he was apparently paid a lot to be on the show. The Roadies star however was hardly visible accept that one big fight that sealed his fate on the show. After pushing Akash Dadlani while supporting Vikas Gupta during a brawl, he was kicked out of the show for breaking the rule of the house.

Arshi Khan and Benafsha are getting a decent amount to be on the show.

Sshivani Durga, Sapna Chaudhary are reportedly being paid somewhere around Rs 20,000 per week.

Big Boss 10 Contestants payment

Bani and Rahul are apparently the highest paid celebs on the Big Boss 10  right now. Karan Mehra TV actor of Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlaata Hai fame is getting paid a whopping Rs 1 crore for the show.

VJ Bani who has been offered the show for the eighth time this year finally agreed only after the makers offered her over Rs 1.5 crore to be on the show. But it’s Rahul Dev who said yes tot he show for a staggering Rs 2 crore, much like Rimi Sen did two years back.

Mona Lisa aka Antara Biswas is the least paid celebrity contestant whereas Rohan Mehra who gets higher than Lopamudra Raut is paid lesser than Gaurav Chopra. Now, you can do the ranking!

Rajev Paul, Vrajesh Hirjee, Sayanti Ghosh and Aashka Goradia bag Rs. 2 lakh a week, while others like cartoonist Aseem Trivedi, Gulabi Gang vigilante Sampat Pal, models Karisma Kotak, Niketan Madhok and hairstylist Sapna Bhavani get between Rs. 1-2 lakh a week. In addition,

Foreign celebrities walk away with fatter pay cheques, like Baywatch star Pamela Anderson who got a whopping Rs. 2.5 crore for a three-day visit to the house. Among earlier contestants, wrestler Khali got Rs.40-50 lakh per week while Shweta Tiwari was probably the highest paid Indian actor on the show, pocketing Rs.5 lakh per week. While Vodafone has stayed on as the title sponsor for the past four seasons, L’Oreal has been on board for the same period as associate sponsor.  The presenting sponsor,Vodaphone, for Bigg Boss 7 pays Rs. 22-25 crore, while the powered by sponsor lands up paying 25 per cent less money than the presenting sponsor, each associate sponsor pays Rs. 12-15 crore.

The popularity of Bigg Boss can be witnessed by the fact that Bigg Boss uploads all episodes after being telecasted on television and an episode of 45 minutes on YouTube has 8 advertisements  and none of them can be skipped

Does Big Boss make money for it’s channel?

 A show like Bigg Boss requires huge amounts of investment in terms of production, marketing and promotions. After losing money, Sony decided to do away with it. Bigg Boss then landed up with Colors. Raj Nayak, CEO, says “Despite losing money on the show, we bring it back season-after-season. We recover 70-80 per cent of our investment.”

A Bigg Boss House is built for every season. The house for Big Boss 7 is located in the tourist place of Lonavala, Pune district of Maharashtra, (however the house for the fifth season was located in Karjat.)  The construction of the sets of Bigg Boss. starts six months before the show goes on-air. At about Rs 1.2 crore an episode, the estimated cost of the show for this season is Rs 110-115 crore, second only to the Indian Premier League in the list of the costliest television properties.  Big Synergry’s game show Kaun Banega Crorepati, on Multi Screen Media’s Sony Entertainment Television, has been made at a cost of Rs 75-80 crore — nearly Rs 2 crore an episode. This makes it the costliest property in terms of cost of production per episode. Colors spends Rs. 8-12 crore on marketing every season.

With this show, it is estimated that the channel will earn revenue of 95 to 105 crores. Telecom giant Vodafone has been roped in the show as a presenting sponsor for the fifth time. Vodafone has been the sponsor for five consecutive years. Industry sources have revealed that the Telecom company has vented out Rs.25 to 30 crores to be in the list of sponsors for the show.  Spot rates range from Rs. 2.7-3.1 lakh per 10 seconds in episodes that feature Salman Khan, while other episodes command Rs. 1.7-2 lakh per 10 seconds.
