Karnataka CET or KCET will provide admissions to Engineering,  Medical, Dental, Homeopathy, Ayurveda, Unani, Naturopathy and Yoga, B.Sc Agriculture, Sericulture, Forestry, Horticulture, B-Pharma and D-Pharma courses for 2016-17 academic session. KCET is applicable only for the students of Karnataka. This article gives overview of Karnataka CET, KCET Procedure, Filling of Karnataka CET Form, Fee Structure of Engineering and Medical Courses in 2016.

About Karnataka CET

Karnataka CET (KCET) 2017 was conducted by Karnataka Examination Authority on May 2 and May 3, 2017 in offline mode ie pen and paper mode. For the latest updates, candidates must remain in touch with the KEA Website http://kea.kar.nic.in till the completion of final round of counselling.  All information about KCET is available at http://kea.kar.nic.in/cet_2017.htm.  

KCET 2017 is conducted for admissions to UG engineering programs in more than 220 colleges of Karnataka. Results for KCET 2017 were announced on 30 May 2017.  CET-2017 – Brochure (College Information)

For admissions to medical and dental courses, candidates will have to write the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2017, which was conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) . The candidates who qualify in the NEET – 2017 exam will only get the eligibility for admission to Medical and Dental courses through KEA for Government share of seats. As the admission to Medical and Dental courses is based on the merit scored by the candidates in the NEET-2017, the candidates have to write NEET-2017. The candidates who have appeared only for NEET-2017 but not registered for CET-2017 will have to register online and enter all the details by selecting the appropriate link on the KEA Website http://kea.kar.nic.in. Once the entry is completed, download the Challan and pay the registration fees. Last date for which is 08/06/2017.

Also, for admissions to Architecture courses, aspirants will have to appear only for the National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA), 2017, conducted by the Council of Architecture.

Basic Eligibility criteria is given below. For other eligibility criteria either parents studied in Karnataka or mother tongue is  Kannada, Tulu or Kodava refer the information bulletin in English

  • The candidate should be a citizen of India.
  • The candidate should have studied and passed in one or more Government or Government recognised educational institutions located in the State of Karnataka for a minimum period of SEVEN academic years commencing from 1st standard to 2nd PUC / 12th standard as on 1st July of the year in which the Entrance Test is held and must have appeared and passed either SSLC / 10th standard or 2nd PUC / 12th standard examination from Karnataka State.

Candidates must retain the following documents with them as a reference for future correspondence.

  • At least three printouts of the finally submitted online Application.
  • You must save the copy of filled in application form of KCET 2017 and get it signed by the principal of your school or college .
  • Proof of fee paid 
  •  2-3 copies of identical Photograph that scanned and uploaded on the Online Application.

Candidate must ensure that mobile numbers, e-mail address entered in the online application form are his/her own  as in case of urgency KEA may send information by SMS or mail on given the mobile number and mailing ID only.

Candidates must preserve the Admit Card till the admission in College or Institution.

KCET Procedure

Karnataka CET is mostly online, from filing the form to choosing a college. You need to physically go for payment of fee after registration, for Verification Documents and once a seat is alloted visit the college with Admission order.

Filling of Karnataka CET Form

Karnataka CET (KCET) 2017 will be conducted by Karnataka Examination Authority on May 2 and May 3, 2017 in offline mode. The site,https://cetonline.karnataka.gov.in/CetApplication2017/Home.aspx,  is best viewed in Internet explorer 10 and above and lastest version of Google chrome.

Candidates need to submit KCET 2017 application form in online mode only. You must save the copy of filled in application form of KCET 2017 and get it signed by the principal of your school or college .

 Documents to be produced for Verification in Karnataka CET

  • 1) SSLC / 10th standard Marks Card,
  • 2) 2nd PUC / 12th standard Marks Card of the candidate,
  • 3) Candidate’s Study CertificateStudy Certificate to show that the candidate has studied in Karnataka for a minimum period of SEVEN years from 1st standard to 12th standard or qualifying examination issued by Head of the institution. Further, School study certificates should be countersigned by the concerned Block Educational Officer (BEO)/Deputy Director of Public Instructions (DDPI) COMPULSORILY in the proforma prescribed atPage 95. PLEASE CONTACT CONCERNED SCHOOL FOR BEO / DDPI OFFICE ADDRESS. (The counter signature for 1st and 2nd PU study certificate is not required) NOTE: CBSE, CISCE, J & K candidates should produce the study certificate obtained from the Principal of their respective schools. Further, countersignature of BEO or DDPI is not required for them.
  • 4) If claiming Rural quota: – Rural Study Certificate from 1st to 10th std for Ten Complete Years.
  • 5) If claiming Kannada Medium quota: Kannada Medium Study Certificate from 1st to 10th std for Ten Complete Years;.
  • 6) If claiming reservation benefits: Caste / Caste Income Certificate issued by Concerned Tahsildar- For SC / ST in Form-D, Category-I in form E and 2A, 2B, 3A and 3B in Form F.

All General Merit, Reserved Categories and Special Category candidates can verify their documents in any of the assigned Helpline Centres as per the schedule given at Page 8-9 . The following ORIGINAL DOCUMENTS AND ONE SET OF ATTESTED PHOTOCOPIES have to arrange IN THE SEQUENTIAL ORDER SHOWN BELOW AND PRODUCE THE SAME IN THE VERIFICATION COUNTER FOR verification of documents.

  • a. The final print out of the CET-2017 Online Application Form.
  • b. Original Copy of the Chalan for having paid the fees.
  • c. CET 2017′ Admission Ticket
  • d. SSLC / 10th Standard Marks Card
  • e. 2nd PUC / 12th Standard Marks Card
  • f. Study Certificate counter signed by the concerned BEO / DDPI
  • g. TWO recent passport size photographs

After successful verification you would be given sheet of paper with Secret Key. Please keep it safely. After the verification of documents and exercising options by the candidate the seats will be allotted as in previous years in three rounds i.e., (1) First Round (2) Second Round (3) Second Extended Round

It is very clearly informed to all the candidates that the USER ID, Secret Key and PASSWORD should not be revealed to anybody. Further, KEA sends SMS alerts and e-mail each time a candidate logs in and logs out of the website for this the candidate has to enter his correct mobile number and valid e-mail ID. Based on the Keyword provided by KEA the 69 candidate has to generate his own password. It is the duty of the candidate to safeguard the credentials of unique Keyword, login and password provided by KEA. Therefore, other than the candidate it is not possible to access / edit the candidate accounts by others or even by KEA

POST SEAT ALLOTMENT PROCEDURE of KCET– CHOICES BEFORE A CANDIDATE

After the entire iteration of all the discipline in all the three phase is complete the final list will be announced on the website and this is known as the First Round. Therefore, many iterations may take place in one round as per the choice of the candidate and as per the availability of seats. The candidate can track down the movement of seats in the different iteration stages to satisfy himself that the best of the choices is allotted to him. Virtual tracking of the process of allotment by the computer can be viewed by the candidate after allotment. This ensures transparency in the entire allotment stage and KEA is known for its motto Trust Through Total Transparency. The final list of the First Round will be hosted on the website, in the Helpline Centres and individual allotment will be sent by SMS, e-mail and the candidates are requested to note the allotment of seats to them in the First Round. The candidate here has 4 choices

Choice 1: I am Satisfied with the allotted seat and am willing to report to the allotted college, therefore I should not be considered for further allotment of seats in any subsequent round for any college / discipline. I will pay the prescribed fees by downloading the Challan / allotted details from the KEAwebsite, I will download the admission order and report to the college. Immediately afterwards, I will login to my Option Entry Log-In-Id and I will report to KEAthat I have joined the College. Further the College Authority will have to login to their College Login-ID and report that the respective candidate has joined the College. If a candidate fails to report back to KEAthat he / she has joined, then seat will be cancelled even though they might have physically joined. Implication: Not eligible to participate in the subsequent rounds. Important: Before opting this choice candidate is advised to make sure that he / she cannot come back to Option Entry Process in CET-2017.

Choice2: I am Satisfied with the allotted seat but wish to participate in the next round. If higher options are allotted then earlier allotted seat gets cancelled automatically OR if higher options seats are not allotted then earlier allotted seat shall remain in candidates favour. Implication: Eligible to participate in the subsequent round keeping the seat allotted on hold. However, if a seat in the higher options gets allotted the candidate loses his old seat. There is no choice between the earlier allotted and newly allotted seats. Important: Fresh options entry will be permitted only when the new college / courses are included in the seat matrix after the allotment of the first round.

Choice3: I am not satisfied with allotted seat but wish to participate in the next round with all the already entered options except the allotted options by surrendering the allotted seat and also re-ordering of already entered options. Implication:Eligible to participate in the subsequent round by rejecting the allotted seat. NOTE: Chances of getting the lower order options is subject to availability of seats as the other candidates next to your rank might have entered those options and seats would be allotted to them based on merit.

Choice4: I am Not satisfied with KEA allotted seat and I have got seat elsewhere, so I am quitting and not to be considered for allotment of seats in any of the further rounds. Implication: Not eligible to participate in the subsequent round no hold on the allotted seat and seat allotted earlier will get cancelled.

Steps to fill Karantaka CET Form

  1. Register with online application of KCET through the link provided here
  2. Enter basic details including valid e-mail id, mobile number, date of birth and parents’ details
  3. Choose a password for login id of Karnataka CET
  4. Login with registered user id and password of KCET
  5. Fill in application form of KCET including academic information, communication address and other details
  6. Scan and Upload the photo, signature and left hand thumb impression
  7. Candidates need to upload scanned copies of recent photograph and signature as per the specifications
  8. They must submit the application form and take a printout of the same by February 27, 2017
  9. KCET application fee can be remitted via Bank Challan and Demand Draft till March 2, 2017.

Karnataka CET (KCET) 2017 Exam Pattern

  • KCET 2017 will be conducted separately for Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics on two alternate days
  • Exam Duration is 1 hour 20 minutes for each test paper.
  • Exam Mode is pen and paper
  • Each section of KCET 2017 carries 60 marks
  • KCET 2017 question paper comprises objective type questions of one mark each
  • Each subject paper of KCET 2017 is allotted 80 minutes time duration and the test is scheduled to be conducted in two shifts.
  • Candidates appearing in KCET 2017 need to carry black or blue ball point pen to mark options in OMR sheet.
  • There is no negative marking for KCET 2017 i.e. In case of wrong attempts, no marks will be deducted from total scored marks. Also, responding with more than one option will be considered as wrong and no marks will be awarded in such case.
