Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh, two well-known actors in Bollywood, tied the knot in Konkani and Sindhi weddings at Villa del Balbianello on the banks of Lake Como, Italy on 14 Nov and 15 Nov 2018. The actors met, and fell in love, on the sets of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Ram Leela, their first film together which was released on 15 Nov 2013. Hence marriage was fixed for 15 Nov.

Deepika belongs to the Saraswat Brahmin community from Karnataka and her mother tongue is Konkani. Ranveer Singh was born on 6 July 1985 into a Sindhi family in Mumbai, to Anju and Jagjit Singh Bhavnani.

The couple will host two receptions on their return to India.

• The Bengaluru reception is expected to take place at The Leela where the couple is said to be staying from November 20 till 22nd.
• The couple will host a grand reception for their industry colleagues at the Grand Hyatt in Mumbai on November 28.

 

The Konkani wedding took place on 14 Nov at Villa del Balbianello, a lakeside mansion featured in ‘Star Wars’ and ‘James Bond’ films. The venue, Villa del Balbianello, was decked up in white roses for the occasion. The ceremony reportedly began at 7 am (11:30 AM IST). Deepika belongs to the Saraswat Brahmin community from Karnataka and her mother tongue is Konkani.

Designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee is said to have dressed the bride, groom and their families. Deepika wore the golden sari and traditional jewellery while Ranveer was decked up in a white silk dhoti and kurta. The bride’s father Prakash Padukone, clad in an off-white shawl over a white kurta and dhoti, welcomed guests at the venue. Ujjala Padukone, Deepika’s mother, opted for a silk saree and completed the look with a gajara in her hair.

Singh arrived under a brocade white and gold umbrella. The groom’s father, Jagjit Singh Bhavnani, also kept his look traditional in a white dhoti-kurta.

For the Sindhi wedding on 15 Nov, Ranveer chose a red sherwani from the designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee. Deepika was dressed in an intricate gold and red sari. Her dupatta is said to hold a Sanskrit quote, which bore blessings.  The Lake Como venue was decked up with red roses, and the baraatis, clad in red turbans, arrived on a yacht.

The weddings were extremely private and intimate affair, with only close family and friends making it to the guest list.  Among the attendees was actor Suniel Shetty’s wife, Mana.  However, Shah Rukh Khan, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Farah Khan and Aditya Chopra were also reportedly invited.

The venue for the wedding, Villa del Balbianello is a stunning Italianate villa that began life as a monastery more than seven centuries ago.  Once a retreat for artists and writers, the home was bequeathed by its last owner to an Italian foundation that preserves the country’s cultural heritage.

The charming villa hosted their big day and was the venue of the mehendi and sangeet ceremony that saw performances by singer Harshdeep Kaur of ‘Kabira’ fame and Shubha Mudgal.

Apparently, they have checked in at the luxurious Casta Diva Resort & Spa located in the village of Blevio on the shores of Lake Como. Blending the romantic Italian charm with modern amenities, the resort is set to be re-branded as Mandarin Oriental, Lake Como in January 2019, following a refurbishment this winter.

Guests were ferried to the venue by Galli Giacomo & C. boat service. Deepika and Ranveer’s wedding invite has a QR code embedded on it. Guests at the venue had to get their personal QR codes scanned before entering the wedding hall. A Filmfare report has suggested that DeepVeer’s guests were bestowed with a gift worth remembering.

Guests and Wedding Presents

When it comes to wedding presents, the ‘Padmaavat’ actors are following in Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s footsteps and have requested all gifts to be sent as donations to the actress’s ‘ The Live Love Laugh Foundation’.

Deepika and Ranveer gifted an exclusive photo frame and a thank you note to all their guests.

Filmmaker Farah Khan, who reportedly also received an invitation, gifted the couple clay impressions of their hands as a wedding made by reputed life casting artist Bhavna Jasr.

After dating for 6  years, the couple announced their wedding date with a post on social media on 21 Oct 2018.

Deepika’s Nandi Puja

The first of the festivities, a traditional South Indian ceremony, Nandi Puja, was held in Bangalore, Deepika’s home city on November 2, 2018.  The puja was followed by a traditional Konkani lunch. Deepika was dressed in a radiant orange outfit by designers, Sabyasachi Mukherjee, with royal chandbalis accessorising her look. Nandi is the vehicle of Lord Shiva.

Deepika’s team which includes stylist Shaleena Nathani, makeup artist Sandhya Shekar and hairstylist Gabriel Georgiou shared photos of the bride at the event on their respective Instagram accounts. Konkani cuisine served on banana leaves added to the South Indian theme, as yellow flowers adorned the venue.

According to media reports, the Bhavnani family hosted Ranveer’s mehendi function at the CastaDiva Resort, where all the wedding guests were camping.

Deepika’s mehendi function took place at the Villa d’ Este, located 5 kilometers away.

The couple hosted their sangeet ceremony, with performances by Harshdeep Kaur and Shubha Mudgal.

At the chooda ceremony Ranveer can be seen wearing a dark green kurta and pyjama with a Nehru jacket while Deepika is dressed in a long suit.

Also visible in the pictures is Deepika’s shining engagement ring which features a cushion-cut diamond set in platinum and is estimated to be around Rs 1.3-2.1 crore.

The stars have booked 75 rooms in the resort, which boils down to a total expenditure of a whopping Rs 2,475,000! Hence, for a week, the actors will shell a total amount of Rs 17,325,000!

The couple has spent almost Rs 1 crore for security purposes for the week. Guests have been provided with special wristbands which symbolises that they are a part of the guest list. Security guards have sealed the camera lenses of the mobile phones of the guests, lest fearing the leakage of any off-guard pictures. Numerous security guards have been on constant patrol on the outskirts of the venue.

The Villa is as famous for its architecture as it is for being the filming location of the movie Ocean’s Twelve.
